An autumn check that triples
your boiler's lifespan
Just this before November keeps your mind at ease all winter. Know-how from a 15-year partner.
Every December, boiler repair companies back up 2+ weeks on bookings. No one wants their boiler to break down and wait in the freezing winter. Check in advance in autumn and you can avoid this situation. Half the cost, and no waiting.
"A boiler rests all summer,
so suddenly running it is a big strain.
Please check it before you wake it."
Self-check — do it before turning the boiler on
- Check the pressure gauge — The gauge on the boiler's front is normal at 1–2 bar. Below 0.5, water top-up is needed. Slowly open the fill valve to refill.Location: boiler front / 5 min
- Check for smells around the boiler — If there's a gas or burnt smell, never turn it on. Open a window and contact a professional immediately.⚠️ Report immediately if a gas leak is suspected
- Check for freeze-damage traces on pipes — Run your hand along the boiler connection pipes to check for cracks or rust marks.5 min / Contact a pro if you find anything
- Test-run and check for noise — A "thud" or "clunk" on first startup means air is trapped. Open the bleed valve slightly to remove the air.Check after 5 min each of hot water·heating
- Check each room's hot-water valve — If a room heats poorly, check whether that room's valve is closed. You can adjust it at the manifold before the floor piping.Check the valves inside the living-room manifold box
